It's really hot and gross out
Midwest heat is especially brutal. I hate “being hot” but it just hits different when the default humidity is 70%. 80 degrees in the desert is nice and if it’s night time or you’re standing under a tree it can almost feel chilly. My neck of the woods is, unfortunately, never graced with levels under 30%.
Lately, it’s been well into the 90s and just a swamp. I’ve got plenty of things I need to get done and even now I’m thinking maybe I’ll try knocking out most of my lawn at 9pm, should be able to get it cleaned up before dark and it’s probably actually annoying to the neighbors. The precedents that have been set for noise though are in my favor.
I did get a new little side project started. Something I’ve always wanted to do is catalog our book collection. It’s not a huge library, but it’s currently at several hundred and constantly growing. I think I’m also zeroing in on building a new book case since we don’t currently have enough room to shelve everything.
Extremely unneccessary and overkill but I’m going to catalog my collection according to the Library of Congress Classification system.

I started vibe coding this thing. It can find books in Open Library and return their LCC. I have a good bit of work to do on this yet but it’s coming along.
Just a simple web app. Besides looking up LCCs it’s keeping a database of my books. That’s all working great. Each book gets it’s own little entry page like shown below.

My top priority is getting the book lookup completely working and polished a little bit. It’s not far off, but, that’s the main thing keeping me from adding stacks of books right now. How it goes. Once the search is all buttoned up, I want to setup local lcc minting because I’m definitely running into some books that don’t have one.
This whole things overkill, I know, but it is fun and scalable. Also just from my initial entries, it’s not like I have everything landing in two or three classifications. My collector-brain/OCD is definitely going to feel compelled to check off the classification boxes.
Guess I’ll try knocking out the lawn.
